Business days skip Saturdays, Sundays, public and substitute holidays, and Labor Day (May 1), when banks close. The Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays delay payouts, so plan for the cash gap before them.
Worked example
- Coupang weekly: 70% of sales confirmed Monday 1 to Sunday 7 December 2025 arrives 15 business days later, on Monday 29 December, one day later because of Christmas. The remaining 30% arrives two months on, on Monday 2 February 2026.
- Smart Store: delivered Monday 12 October 2026 → auto-confirmed Tuesday 20 October if the customer doesn’t confirm → paid the next business day, Wednesday 21 October.
How to shorten the wait
- Ask for confirmation: asking customers to confirm in your delivery message can save the 7–8 day wait for auto-confirmation.
- Fast settlement: Coupang lets you draw 90% of the previous day’s confirmed sales early (not for Rocket Growth), and Smart Store has fast settlement through Naver Financial. Check each seller center for conditions and fees.
- Coupang settlement type: weekly pays 70% sooner but holds back 30%, while monthly pays everything at once but later. Choose what suits your cash flow.
FAQ
What is the default settlement type for new Coupang sellers?
Sources disagree, so check your own account. You can see and change it in Coupang Wing → Additional sales info → Settlement type.
What about returns and exchanges?
While a return or refund is in progress the order isn’t confirmed, so settlement waits. On Coupang, an exchange completed after confirmation moves confirmation to 7 days after the exchange.
Can the real payout date differ by a day?
Yes. Cut-off times, processing and bank timing can shift it by about a day. Check the scheduled payout date in Coupang Wing or the Smart Store Center.
