For overseas sellers

Selling on Coupang as an Overseas Seller

Coupang is Korea’s largest online marketplace, and it runs a program for sellers based outside Korea. Here is which route fits you, what you need to sign up, how fees and payouts work, and what to prepare for shipping, returns and product rules.

Which Coupang program fits you

There is more than one way in. The main route for most overseas businesses is Coupang Global Marketplace: you list products in Coupang’s seller center (called WING) and ship orders from your own country directly to customers in Korea.

RouteWho it is forHow it works
Coupang Global Marketplace (seller-fulfilled)Businesses outside KoreaYou list in WING and ship each order from abroad. No Korean entity needed.
Coupang fulfillment for global sellersSellers in China (per Coupang’s FAQ)Coupang stores and ships your stock. Coupang says this is currently available only for sellers in China.
Coupang Global USUS brands and sellersWholesale to Coupang, Coupang fulfillment from a center in California, or ship-it-yourself marketplace selling, to Korea and Taiwan.
Rocket Growth (domestic)Sellers with Korean business registrationYou send stock to Coupang warehouses in Korea. Coupang’s Korean seller guide assumes a Korean business registration and mail-order filing.

If you are not in China or the US and do not have a Korean business, plan on the seller-fulfilled Global Marketplace route. You can still use third-party logistics partners. Coupang lists them in its Service Provider Network (shipping, Korean warehouses, local returns, translation).

What you need to register

Coupang’s global seller site says sign-up is free and that no Korean language or Korean business entity is required. Sign-up asks for four documents:

  1. Business license from your home country
  2. Proof of identity of the business owner, such as a passport
  3. Proof of business ownership
  4. Bank letter or bank statement for the account you will be paid into

Coupang says sign-up review typically takes up to five business days when all documents are correct. After you get WING access, you must complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification before you can be paid: a scanned passport with your English name exactly as printed, your business license in English, and for companies a shareholder register in English plus details of anyone who owns more than 25%.

Coupang publishes sign-up guides by region (Japan, Europe, the US, Australia and others) and a Chinese-language portal for sellers in China. The WING seller center is available in Korean, English and Chinese.

Fees and payouts

Overseas sellers pay the same types of fees as Korean sellers. We explain the rates in detail in our Coupang sales commission guide, so here is the short version from Coupang’s global seller pages:

Payouts: Coupang’s global seller guide describes monthly settlement, paid on the 15th business day of the following month by transfer to your overseas bank account. You are paid only if that month’s sales exceed 1,000,000 KRW; otherwise the balance carries over to the next month. If your volume is small at first, expect payouts to arrive in lumps.

Shipping to Korean customers

International freight is usually your biggest cost per order. Price it on volumetric weight with the volumetric weight calculator before you set your shipping fee.

Returns

Korean consumers have a legal right to cancel most online purchases within 7 days of receiving the goods, so plan for returns from day one. Coupang’s rules for global sellers:

Your setupWhat happens on a return
Korean return address + supported carrierPickup is triggered automatically when the customer starts a return in the Coupang app.
No Korean address, item under 50,000 KRWThe customer is asked to discard the item. If the return is the seller’s fault, the seller bears the cost.
No Korean address, item over 50,000 KRWYou must contact the customer within 3 days to arrange pickup, or Coupang asks the customer to discard it.

If a returned item arrives damaged or used, you can file a Coupang Verification Request within 14 business days. Several Service Provider Network partners offer warehouse storage and local returns in Korea, which is worth considering once you sell higher-priced items.

Listings and customer service in Korean

Coupang does not translate listings for you. Its multilingual seller support can help where possible, and it points sellers to translation agencies in the Service Provider Network. Korean shoppers read titles, options and detail pages in Korean, and customer inquiries usually arrive in Korean too, so budget for translation and for someone (a person or a reliable tool plus review) who can answer within 24 hours.

Product rules: KC, restricted items, counterfeits

Our customs, PCCC and KC guide covers the Korean side of these rules in more detail.

Step-by-step checklist

  1. Check that your products are allowed and whether they need KC (infant products and electronics first).
  2. Prepare your business license, passport, proof of ownership and a bank statement in the business name. Get English versions ready for KYC.
  3. Sign up on Coupang’s global seller site and wait for review (up to about five business days).
  4. Complete KYC in WING so you can be paid.
  5. Choose your shipping partner, test a parcel to Korea, and set an honest lead time.
  6. Decide on returns: a Korean return address (directly or through a partner) or the overseas-return rules above.
  7. Translate titles, options and detail pages into natural Korean.
  8. Run the numbers: commission, shipping fee, freight and the monthly fee, then list your first products.
  9. Answer inquiries within 24 hours and watch your seller score in the first weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Korean company to sell on Coupang?

Not for Coupang Global Marketplace. Coupang’s global seller site says no Korean business entity is required. You sign up with your home-country documents and complete KYC.

Can overseas sellers use Rocket Growth or Coupang fulfillment?

Coupang’s global seller FAQ says its fulfillment service is currently available only for sellers in China. US sellers have the separate Coupang Global US program. Everyone else ships orders themselves or through Service Provider Network partners. Rocket Growth in Korea is set up for sellers with a Korean business registration.

How are overseas sellers paid?

Monthly, on the 15th business day of the following month, to your overseas bank account, once monthly sales exceed 1,000,000 KRW. Coupang’s guide does not state the payout currency, so check it in WING when you register your bank account.

Do I need a return address in Korea?

Not required, but it lets Coupang trigger return pickups automatically. Without one, customers discard returned items under 50,000 KRW, and for items over 50,000 KRW you must contact the customer within 3 days.

Is there a sign-up fee?

No. Coupang charges no sign-up fee; you pay commission when you sell, plus the monthly service fee in months above the sales threshold.
